Nuffield Project: Motion Control or Keys in Scratch

As part of the Nuffield Research Programme Dominic is exploring the question would using the Motion Sensing features of Scratch to provide an enhanced user experience than keys to do in the same role.

It is hoped that the research can feed into advice and support given in the Young Coders Competition - a coding competition for students in years 4-8. Below are the two games to play and feedback on.

First game uses keys (up and down keys) to play Pong this one can be run by clicking on the image below and using up and down keys to move the left paddle.

The second game does the same but using motion sensing (move your hand slowly up and down in front of your webcam). The embedded version does not work as well (it doesn't seem to always turn on the webcam) as compared to going to the site itself https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/718120998 so please use this link.

Both games are available at:

Please feel free to add comments either on this blog or at the two sites
